Annual Hemlock Fest in Dahlonega - Nov 6-8

From NGa. Group: Help save our native Hemlocks and have a great time in the process. HemlockFest 2009 will be held at the beautiful Starbridge retreat just outside historic Dahlonega (about one hour north of Atlanta) on Nov 6, 2009 - Nov 8, 2009.

The Hemlocks issue

The survival of hemlock trees is being threatened by the woolly adelgid, an aphid-like insect introduced from Asia and now spreading through the north Georgia forests. This benefit will raise funds and awareness to help save these magnificent trees that arguably define southern Appalachia and keep our rivers cool enough to sustain such temperature-sensitive species as trout and crayfish. 100% of donations/proceeds from the festival will go toward advancing the hemlocks defense against the woolly adelgid.

This Year's Activities

FireDance as well as music from such genres as singer songwriter, folk, blue/newgrass, blues, classic oldies, Celtic rock, and jam band will be performed.

Experts on the Hemlock issue will also be at the event, speaking and answering questions about efforts to save the trees. Many fun family and child activities will take place, arts and craft vendors will be present and food, drink, t-shirts, and other festival paraphernalia will be available for purchase.

Donations and Tickets

All donations and ticket purchases are tax deductible, and the proceeds go to help fund the efforts to protect the Hemlocks.
