Demo bikes will be provided to ride on the Bartram trail (beginner to moderate rating) at Lake Springs picnic area at Clarks Hill Lake. SRG Monthly Meeting - Oct-21-2014

Cabela's, Augusta's newest outdoor equipment store, will talk about their involvement in the local community, their conservation goals, and in-store seminars and demonstrations. They will bring their new backpacks and camping equipment and will do demos on water purification and knife sharpening (bring a non-serrated knife for the demo). EPA Public Hearing and Rally in Atlanta - Jul 29

The Presidents Clean Energy Plan is a VERY big deal for the climate. It will reduce dangerous carbon pollution from power plants 30% by 2030 and spur investment in a clean energy for a more energy efficient economy. The EPAs very first hearing on the plan is in Atlanta on 29 July. Georgia Power is sure to have a big crowd to speak against the rule. To ensure that EPA and our elected officials hear a clear and resounding message that Georgians want swift and bold action opposing climate change, the GA Chapter is working to have over 500 Sierra Club members and supporters attend the hearing and also a big rally that day. We need you there... The GA Chapter will help with travel arrangements for a group from Augusta to attend on 29 July. We will have more information on the Clean Energy Plan at the Pot Luck on July 11th at our movie night and potluck with Seth Gunning. Contact April at aprillynnwilson@gmail.com

This is next to the canal. *Stone from this centuries old quarry was used to build the original canal. Congaree National Park Day Hike - Mar 29

The Congaree NP currently has five national champion trees and more than two dozen state champions. It is one of the tallest hardwood forests in the temperate world. Mr. John Cely, National Park Service, will be our guide. We will see one of the oldest known loblolly pines anywhere at ca. 260 years. Also we will see another loblolly pine, the current national champion and the tallest known tree in SC at 170 feet. Also, large cherry bark oaks, swamp chestnut oaks, laurel oaks, sweet gums and a former national champion over cup oak. Richard Dillenbeck can only take a limited number. Trip to Cumberland Island: Mar 7-9

Visit a pristine maritime forest, undeveloped beaches and marshes. We will camp at Crooked River State Park March 7th - 9th, take the ferry to Cumberland Island Saturday and spend the day hiking and exploring. Have you wanted to take an outing somewhere but no one has offered it? Become an outings leader with the Sierra Club. We will have a training session and potluck dinner on Jan-04-2014. from 5pm-10pm.
