Apr-19-2014: {Outing} Mistletoe State Park Hike - APR 19

DATE: Saturday, Apr-19-2014. TIME: 9:15am. DESCR: Meet at the UU Church, 3501 Walton Way Extension, for a 7.5 mile hike through mixed forest, cross streams, practice following blazed trails. Congaree National Park Day Hike - Mar 29

The Congaree NP currently has five national champion trees and more than two dozen state champions. It is one of the tallest hardwood forests in the temperate world. Mr. John Cely, National Park Service, will be our guide. We will see one of the oldest known loblolly pines anywhere at ca. 260 years. Also we will see another loblolly pine, the current national champion and the tallest known tree in SC at 170 feet. Also, large cherry bark oaks, swamp chestnut oaks, laurel oaks, sweet gums and a former national champion over cup oak. Richard Dillenbeck can only take a limited number. Trip to Cumberland Island: Mar 7-9

Visit a pristine maritime forest, undeveloped beaches and marshes. We will camp at Crooked River State Park March 7th - 9th, take the ferry to Cumberland Island Saturday and spend the day hiking and exploring. Sunday we will explore St. Mary's by bicycle, then return to Augusta at 1pm. $35.00 reservation fee is required by January 31st. Contact Cathy Black 706/284-0230

Have you wanted to take an outing somewhere but no one has offered it? Become an outings leader with the Sierra Club. We will have a training session and potluck dinner on Jan-04-2014. from 5pm-10pm. We have Sierra Club front auto plates for sale. They help to advertise the club, make a nice gift, show you to be an environmental supporter/activist, and help support the Savannah River Group.

Plates can be purchased either:

  • At our monthly meetings for $12.50 each; or
