OVERVIEW: Politics is essentially about trying to influence policy and attempting to make a difference to how things work. We are looking for Sierra Club members who are interested in helping us achieve our political and legislative goals by getting to know their state senator or representative and share your thoughts on environmental issues you care about.

Our objectives:

  1. Meet twice while Georgia General Assembly is out of session (April–December)
  2. Meet twice while Georgia General Assembly is in session (January–March)
  3. Attend one open house or meet the candidate opportunities annually.
  4. Introduce a friend and constituent to the legislator in one of your meetings.
  5. Work on their election campaign when needed (even just two hours).
We will create a tracking system to assess individual progress and results.

We will provide training and talking points. Maintaining a good relationship is the goal. You will be paired with an experienced volunteer lobbyist until you feel comfortable on your own.

Contact: If you are interested in working with this program, please contact Mark Woodall at (706)-601-1118.
