OVERVIEW: This important committee works to protect National Forest Lands and Wildlife throughout Georgia. We support the work of other conservation organizations to enhance effectiveness through multi-group collaboration and cooperation.

This committee is the primary group that will carry out the visions of the Wildlands Campaign.
The committee issues for 2012 are:
- Fresh water turtles. In 2011 the Georgia DNR adopted regulations governing the harvest of fresh water turtles. In 2012 the Committee will begin monitoring DNR's progress in implementing and enforcing the regulations.
- Eastern Hemlocks. The Committee will continue to support the work of the Lumpkin County Coalition in protecting the hemlock tress from the invasive insect, the wooly adelgid.
- Wilderness Initiatives. Protecting and expanding Georgia’s wilderness areas will be a higher priority in2012. We will press for "Wild and Scenic River" designation for portions of the Ocmulgee and Oconee Rivers and promote new wilderness designations for the Mountaintown and Rock Gorge areas. Committee members will monitor the status and health of selected existing wilderness areas. The Committee will also monitor and comment on any wilderness related legislation pending in the U.S. Congress or the Georgia General Assembly.
- National Forests. The Committee will continue to monitor the health of Georgia’s national forests and continue to oppose revenue-motivated commercial logging, mining, and any other abusive uses.
