In 1982 a few forward thinking volunteers dedicated themselves to Georgia's environment and formed the Georgia Chapter of the Sierra Club. We want to celebrate them and the hundreds of other Georgians who have made the Georgia Chapter Sierra Club what it is today.
Accomplishments of the Georgia Chapter Sierra Club include:
Instrumental in the addition of acreage to the Chattahoochee River National Recreation Area
Protection of Okefenokee Swamp and surrounding areas from titanium mining
Instrumental in passage of the Coastal Marshlands Protection Act and the Georgia Environmental Protection Act
