Atlanta Group Sierra Club Executive Committee Minutes

Agenda: No agenda was available.


Minutes: The October 99 minutes were distributed.


Retreat: About 100 people attended and the weekend went well. Treasurer is awaiting receipts for reimbursing food costs for the Friday night.


One Club: Lee Thomas, Larry Winslett and others met to develop a initial proposal. Comments were solicited and a final proposal to developed by 11/9/99. Steering committee is fleshing out bullets and will resend to steering committee and Chapter ExCom for additional comments. Sam Booher promised $1,000 for startup costs.


Membership: Carolyn mentioned the need for enthusiasm to be cranked up to develop more people to show up for meetings. Now sending out ~300 cards to get a few people to show up. Proposes to send invitations to everyone who attended a meeting this year to Holiday meeting in December. May explore possibilities of calling (e.g., one-call system) before meeting to remind of attendance.


Conservtn: Old growth trees in East Point canvassing on Saturday will be coordinated by Roger Buerke. Janet indicated 12-15 people showed up for Sierra Club for Rivers Alive! clean-up. About 40 people total cleaned up Peavine Creek of tires, trash and kudzu. Bob Woodall mentioned Restaurant Bar Recycling project. Intern did report on waste assessments and found most businesses do not want to recycle, and not much access to recycling centers. Bob suggested customers should hold businesses accountable for recycling glass. Bob will write and submit front page article for Georgia Sierrian.


Treasurer: $3,900 in checking account and running $2,300 above budget. Treasurer moved $2,500 from checking into Pax World Fund investments.
