Peachtree Creek Cleanup

by Chris Kaufman

Nine volunteers (John Allerdice, Steve Dennis, Karen Hoover, Lissa & Ted Jackson, Chris Kaufman, Hege Lizarradle, Kathy Manzel, and Levi [the dog]) showed up on April 1, 2000 at 8:45 AM to clean up along the South Fork of Peachtree Creek in Tucker.  As we picked up trash, we talked about conservation issues like erosion and sedimentation control and water quality.  Ted swam with the fishes a few times and Steve persuaded "Tony the Turtle" (a plastic pool turtle) to carry many loads of trash for us.  Kathy got so dirty we couldn't recognize her.  We ended up removing 35 bags of debris (about 1,000 pounds) from a 250 yard length of stream.  We were disgusted by evidence that one really bad neighbor dumped construction trash and concrete debris into the stream.

We left tired, dirty and wet -- but pleased with our efforts.
